THE WORLD CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP IS STARTING .......

The World Chess Championship is starting on November 7th and ending on November 27th 2013 at Hyatt Regency, Chennai. The first game starts at 15.00 hrs IST. However, a point to be noted is that after a long hiatus the "illness clause has been brought in for the 12 games match which essentially means that either player can take time off on grounds of health. This clause was prevalent for matches where the winner was decided by a rapid play-off. Thus both players are on an even keel. Earlier in the event of a tie, the reigning World Champion retained the crown.
Magnus Carlsen had arrived in Chennai and found the arrangements satisfactory. During this period he gave a simultaneous display against 20 players aged 17 to 17 years. And what do we have as results: surprise, surprise. He got defeated in 4 games, drew 6 games and won 10 games. One wonders what the ratings really reflect or was Carlsen feigning poor form. There might be some credence to the latter for he played extremely strongly in St. Louis, USA where the competition was with the men like - Aronian, Nakamura, and Kamsky. He finished first a full point ahead of the runner-up.
Both players are tight lipped about their teams. Though, there was a report that Anand has roped in GM Sandipan whose style is close to Carlsen. Carlsen is strong in situations where the conditions in the middle-game are drawish. Carlsen seems to win from such positions. Anand is depending on Deep Hiracs (multi-core software) for his openings.
Please note that this is the official link for the match.
